don’t say spirit animal if you’re not native american thanks

the concept of the spirit animal is not limited to the native american culture

oh my god. i am native american. you are not. im not OBLIGATED to give you information about why mocking my culture is wrong, you disgusting fucking racist.

Let me re-assess this.

Spirit animals are a part of Native American culture.

You assert that because of this, the use of the term is limited to use only in its original definition, by only Native Americans.

I assert that spirit animals are not limited to Native American culture.

Tumblr user vergess has proved me wrong, by bringing up the fact that doing so turns spiritualism in its entirety into a fad. And she’s right.

I apologize for being wrong, but being in a minority doesn’t grant you the authority to harass someone for thinking just a LITTLE differently. You’re Native American, and you have the right to get angry at someone for appropriating your culture. In my own experience as a southeast Asian, I don’t get angry at people for enjoying my culture, because my culture is fucking cool. If someone were to take my culture but take the Asian out of it, I’d tell them, but I wouldn’t call them a racist fucktard. Being misinformed isn’t horrible. Refusing to be informed it horrible. The way you approach people who don’t think the way you think is rather toxic. Remember that there’s a Martin Luther King day, not a Malcom X day. I’m trying to respect you, but it’s becoming hard because of the way you’re acting.

People don’t seem to understand that if trans women have a problem with something involving their representation and recognition they need to sit the fuck down and shut up about it.

If they say something is transmisogynistic, it is, it’s not up for debate.

"It’s not up for debate" is not a valid way to assure your argument, no matter which side you are on.

Bring it down six to eight notches, Arceus.

Yes, the phrase exists in other religious settings. That does not in any way excuse it’s use in non-spiritual ways, like calling a hot celebrity with a sense of humor your spirit animal.

You are purposely using semantics to derail a very valid point: the way indigenous, non-Christian religious practices are being stripped of their value and turned into a fad by users of this very website, to say nothing of the rest of society.

Do not do that, you’re better than that.

You see? This is the kind of information I want to be brought against me. Not insults and a lack of information. Frankly I’m happy to accept vergess’s point as truth so this can be over (and I’ll have to say it’s quite true), though gayrus has yet to learn how to actually make a clear and valid argument.
